The Establishment of the Underground

Before there was that awesome and ground-breaking underground, after-hours scene, there was The Establishment.

The Underground was a natural outgrowth of not fitting in with The Establishment.

Punk rock fit in with The Establishment night club world, then got itself thrown out, and then welcomed back.

The symbiotic love/hate relationship of The Establishment and The Underground - for eons before there was a punk movement - is what helped make both sides of the scene flourish.

My established underground home-away-from-home was The Whisky A Go-Go.
